I’m a first time boat builder who decided that building a boat wasn’t enough of an undertaking, so I’ll also try blogging my experiences for the fist time. I’ve decided to build a boat for a few reasons: It’s a cross between a couple of my favorite hobbies (wood working and fishing), and I have had a lot of difficulty finding the exact boat I want. So naturally I just decided to build one.
I’m building the 18.5” Beryllium Skiff designed by Chris Morejohn. The boat will be fiberglass and resin with foam core (not wood). After purchasing the drawing and some material, I kicked off this build the second week of October 2020. I work full time and will have to manage other responsibilities. So caution, this will be a slow, but hopefully steady process. My original estimate for completing this is one year and about $20K….Here goes nothing!
Whatever good things we build end up building us.
